About Me

Surrounded by the tools of my trade

Based on the Isle of Portland, on the Jurassic Coast, I work primarily with encaustic beeswax. I am drawn to the olfactory properties of this medium, the smell, the texture and the way it changes under heat. I can embed collaged items, incise text, allow it to melt and re-arrange itself, moving across the surface picking up and repelling colour as it goes.

I work and teach from my studio on the Island and am greatly influenced by my surroundings. The wild seas, the rocky cliffs and stone quarries, and the unique light, almost Mediterranean on a summer evening. It has been a draw for artists through the centuries and is the home of the contemporary B-Side organisation.

I view my relationship with wax as constantly evolving, like a butterfly, I find my attention drawn to different ways of working, incorporating new media, always searching and pushing both the wax and me.
