Exploring the exciting properties of encaustic beeswax has been my passion for several years. First used by the Ancient Egyptians as a painting medium, it saw a resurgence last century and has continued to flourish. It is still relatively unknown in Europe, but once discovered, never forgotten. My work in encaustic wax includes abstraction, seascapes, photo-encaustic, bas-relief wax casting and some encaustic collograph printing. The method of application is like no other. Molten wax is layered on a surface and fused to create a solid, durable surface which can be polished to a high gloss. Colour and images can be obscured and forever hidden, or scraped back to reveal an earlier time. For me encaustic wax is the perfect painting medium.
I offer personal tuition in Contemporary Encaustic Wax Painting from my studio on the beautiful and historical Isle of Portland in Dorset, UK. Check out my workshops page or contact me for more information.
I’m interested in coming to one of your workshops can you send me details please
I am interested in encaustic workshops/sessions. I have set up a space at home, made encaustic medium, used alcohol inks and completed some very small pieces. I’m finding working on a larger scale quite difficult and would welcome some guidance. Can you give me some idea what your courses cover please. Also is there accommodation nearby. I live in Lincoln. Many thanks.
Barbara
Hi Lyn Kirkland,
I am the lady from Weymouth College that interviewed you on the 28th January 2019 on a Monday Morning, could you possible send an email back just to confirm that I contacted you for that interview please as is needed for my Professional Practice.
I did indeed very much enjoyed that day in your lovely studio and very much hope to do one of your courses and join Artwey in the near future.
Look forward to your email, take care and thank you.
Yours Sincerely
Marie
Lyn is a very generous with her knowledge on ALL things encaustic. Having spent the day working with her in her lovely little studio finding out about different ways you can use wax as a medium. I am now full of ideas I can’t wait to try out for myself. She is very patience and caters for your artistic vision whilst gently encouraging you explore the medium through her demonstrations.
Even though I have used encaustic before it was good to get sound advice on technique and products to use in encaustic to improve upon my own work and give me the confidence to further pursue encaustic painting for myself.
I highly recommend Lyn’s workshops to all levels from beginners to well establish artists, there is something for everyone. She also makes nice tea and cakes!
thank you for liking my website Thomas…do you want to buy a painting??
